Oil content of some alage species |
Theoretical maximum yields of some algae species |
Basic INformation & summarize There are over 100,000 different strains of algae. Some grow better in different climates, or in freshwater, saltwater, or even wastewater. So scientists are testing different algae under many different conditions to find the best strains and develop the most efficient farming practices. There are many different types of microalgae out there, by looking at the chart, we can see that the type of algal called Schiochytrium has the largest amount of oil which is 77% dw. Hantzschia DI-160 has the second largest of oil content, which is 66% dw. By looking at the chart of Theoretical maximum yields of few microalgae in open pond, we notice that Marine Nannochloropsis has the highest percentage of yield, which is 20-30g/m2/day.
